“We recently had friends visiting from South Africa who were sad to learn we couldn’t fit Scotland into their UK itinerary — especially as they have Scottish heritage and Adam, one of our guests, is passionate about bagpipe music. We decided to surprise them by hiring Ed Arnold, a professional bagpiper, to play at a small friends-and-family gathering in our back garden.
From the moment we contacted Ed, he was warm, accommodating, and every bit as enthusiastic as if we were planning a major event. He arrived discreetly to keep the surprise for Adam.
The look of pure joy on Adam’s face when Ed began to play was unforgettable. Ed’s performance was outstanding — not only did he play the tunes we had requested, he went above and beyond with an incredible repertoire that kept us all mesmerised.
We had been concerned that our small gathering might not warrant a professional like Ed, but we couldn’t have been more wrong. He brought the spirit of Scotland to our garden with heart, humour, and such genuine warmth. Adam has watched the video of Ed’s performance countless times since — it clearly meant the world to him, and to us all.
I can’t recommend Ed Arnold highly enough. His professionalism, talent, and kind presence turned a simple garden gathering into an unforgettable celebration.
